6 Spring Wellness Trends

Spring and its time of growth and renewal is the perfect time to start with a fresh focus on wellness. Here are six wellness trends to watch out for this season.

1. Eat seasonally: Stands to reason that as the weather gets warmer, lighter fare becomes more appealing – it’s called thermoregulation! Heavier foods create warmth in the body for wintery months – spring time fruits and vegetables don’t generate the same heat and tend to have higher water content for rehydration. Eating seasonally can also save you money at the grocery store and reduce food miles all at once! In spring, try incorporating strawberries, asparagus, and greens into your diet.   • Ginger
  • Avocados
  • Green beans

2. Family-friendly wellness retreats: More and more wellness retreats are becoming family-friendly, so you can take a break from the kids without feeling guilty. 3. Plant-based diets: Plant-based diets are increasing in popularity as people become more aware of the health and environmental benefits of eating less meat. If you’re thinking of going plant-based this spring, there are plenty of resources available to help you make the transition. Whether you want to make a full switch to a plant-based diet, or just want to substitute a few veggie meals a week, spring is the perfect time to get started.

4. Mental health apps: There’s an app for everything these days, and mental health is no exception. From meditation apps to therapy apps, there’s a wide range of options designed to help you manage stress and improve your mental wellbeing. 5. Nature therapy: Time in nature has been shown to have numerous benefits for mental and physical health. If you’re looking for a way to relax and recharge this spring, try spending some time outdoors in your local park or venturing further afield into neighbouring bushland. If the weather is warm enough, hit the beach for the relaxing, rhythmic sound of waves hitting the shore.

6. Fitness and wellness festivals: Growing in popularity worldwide, and especially in the northern hemisphere, fitness festivals combine aspects of fitness, wellness and holistic health into one massive event. Some such as Switzerland’s Arc’teryx Alpine Academy, are held in places of great natural beauty, and combine the vibes of a music festival with a wellness retreat. These events also often include a trail or ultra-trail running event, a running race that is longer than a marathon and is undertaken on nature trails.
