Three Clever Ways to Use Leftover Red Wine

In case you weren’t already aware, red wine naturally starts to oxidize 24 hours after opening it. So, we’re guessing now you’re wondering what you could do to make the most of the leftover wine. Well, here’s our favourite three ways to reuse it.

Red Wine Vinegar

This homemade red wine vinegar recipe will have you and all your guests coming back for more. All you require to make it is your leftover red wine and raw apple cider vinegar, easy as that!

Ingredients:

1 ½ cups red wine

¼ cup raw apple cider vinegar

  1. Stir together your leftover wine and vinegar in a glass jar.
  2. Cover the jar with a double layer tablecloth and wrap it securely around the edge to secure it so no air gets in.
  3. Store the jar in a dark and cool place for about 8 weeks.
  4. After 8 weeks strain the mixture into a clean glass jar to remove any sediments.
  5. Enjoy!

Glaze

Red wine can easily be used for a delicious glaze over your meats or vegetables to add extra flavour to your dishes.

Ingredients:

½ cup red wine

½ strawberries

2/3 teaspoon orange marmalade

  1. Bring a steel pot over the stove and place your strawberries in first to soften them for 2-4 minutes.
  2. Stir in your left-over red wine with your strawberries.
  3. Add in the orange marmalade.
  4. Stir all ingredients together on medium-low heat for 10 minutes, or until it becomes glaze-like.
